Role Description The Executive Director of Communications is a full-time, remote role responsible for leading Orcas Capital’s overall communications strategy and execution. This position oversees internal and external messaging, including press releases, media outreach, and public relations campaigns that reinforce the organization’s independence, integrity, and technical excellence. Day-to-day tasks include developing and implementing strategic communication plans, managing media relations, coordinating responses to inquiries, and ensuring consistent brand voice across digital, print, and stakeholder communications. The Executive Director will collaborate with senior leadership and technical teams to translate complex regulatory and inspection concepts into clear, accessible content for clients, partners, and the public. This role also involves monitoring communication performance, managing potential reputation risks, and guiding communication policies and guidelines for the organization.
Qualifications
Strong communication skills, including the ability to craft clear, accurate, and engaging messages for diverse audiences.
Expertise in strategic communications, with experience designing and implementing comprehensive communication plans.
Proficiency in media relations and public relations, including managing press interactions and representing the organization in public forums.
Ability to plan, write, and oversee high-quality press releases aligned with organizational goals and regulatory standards.
Proven leadership experience in communications or related fields, preferably in regulated or technical sectors.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in en_US, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Demonstrated experience working remotely and collaborating effectively across departments and levels of seniority.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field; advanced degree is a plus.
Experience with reputation management, crisis communication, and stakeholder engagement strategies.
High level of integrity, discretion, and commitment to impartiality and confidentiality in all communications.
