About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

THE DATUM PROJECT, a material study platform developed by Arcedo to make architectural material research more informed and practical. The platform helps users evaluate materials across factors such as climate suitability, cost, durability, sustainability, construction methods, aesthetics, maintenance, availability, and code compliance. DATUM is designed for architects, designers, students, and researchers who need contextual insight to make better material decisions. Rather than evaluating materials in isolation, DATUM focuses on how and where each material performs best, supported by structured analysis and documentation.
Role Description
The Research Assistant Intern will support ongoing material research projects within THE DATUM PROJECT in a full-time, remote capacity. Day-to-day tasks include conducting structured literature and market research on architectural materials, compiling data from multiple sources, and organizing it into clear, usable formats for the DATUM platform. The intern will assist in analyzing material performance across technical, environmental, economic, and aesthetic dimensions, and help prepare research summaries, comparative matrices, and SWOT analyses. Additional responsibilities may include contributing to internal documentation, supporting data quality checks, and collaborating with designers, researchers, and other team members through online meetings and shared tools.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong Research and Analytical Skills to investigate materials, compare multiple factors, and draw clear, evidence-based conclusions.
Candidates should possess solid Data Analysis skills, including the ability to organize datasets, interpret trends, and present findings in structured formats.
Candidates should possess effective Communication skills to prepare concise reports, share insights with the team, and collaborate in a remote environment.
Candidates should possess basic Laboratory Skills or familiarity with material testing concepts, even if work is primarily desk-based.
Relevant qualifications include current enrollment in or completion of a degree in architecture, design, engineering, materials science, or a related field.
Additional beneficial skills include proficiency with spreadsheets and research tools, attention to detail, time management, and an interest in sustainable and context-driven material selection.
