Process Simulation Engineer – Modelica / Dymola
Company: EarthEn Energy
Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka, India
Work Mode: Full-time, On-site
About EarthEn Energy
EarthEn Energy is a climate-tech company focused on decarbonizing industrial heat through innovative thermal energy storage solutions. Our heat battery stores energy from waste heat or intermittent renewable electricity and delivers reliable, on-demand industrial heat.
We are building solutions to help industries reduce emissions while improving energy efficiency and operational flexibility.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Process Simulation Engineer with hands-on experience in Modelica/OpenModelica or Dymola to develop, validate, and troubleshoot dynamic and steady-state models of thermal and process systems.
The role involves modelling heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, turbines, packed-bed thermal energy storage systems, and other process equipment. You will work on thermodynamic analysis, heat and mass transfer, system dynamics, and simulation validation to support the development of our thermal energy storage technology.
Mandatory requirement: Practical, hands-on experience developing models using Modelica/OpenModelica or Dymola. Candidates without hands-on Modelica-based modelling experience will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain dynamic and steady-state process models using Modelica/OpenModelica or Dymola.
Model thermal and process equipment, including heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, turbines, storage tanks, and packed-bed heat transfer systems.
Perform thermodynamic calculations, heat and mass balances, and energy-efficiency analysis.
Work with real-gas and ideal-gas behaviour and equations of state, including Peng–Robinson and Soave–Redlich–Kwong (SRK), where applicable.
Translate process descriptions, PFDs, and P&IDs into simulation models.
Analyse transient behaviour, startup/shutdown dynamics, and system performance under varying operating conditions.
Troubleshoot convergence, initialization, numerical stability, and simulation issues.
Validate simulation results against experimental data, plant data, literature, or other simulation tools.
Process simulation outputs and time-series data using Python or MATLAB.
Collaborate with thermal, mechanical, process, and controls engineers to improve system performance.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Hands-on experience with Modelica/OpenModelica or Dymola is mandatory.
Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and mass and energy balances.
Experience developing and validating dynamic or transient simulation models.
Understanding of process equipment and thermal-fluid systems.
Ability to troubleshoot simulation models and interpret results.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, gPROMS, or other process simulation tools.
Experience modelling thermal energy storage, packed beds, heat exchangers, or industrial heating systems.
Knowledge of Python or MATLAB for data analysis and post-processing.
Familiarity with FMI/FMU, co-simulation, or control-system integration.
Experience with real-gas properties and thermodynamic property libraries.
Who Should Apply?
We welcome candidates from chemical process simulation, thermal systems, energy systems, mechanical systems, and related engineering backgrounds, provided they have genuine hands-on Modelica/OpenModelica or Dymola modelling experience and a strong foundation in thermodynamics and heat transfer.
If you enjoy solving complex engineering problems through dynamic simulation and want to contribute to industrial decarbonization, we would love to hear from you.
