About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

Operating Partner, Federal Health — FedStone
Building the market the federal government runs on.
The federal government buys $750 billion a year. By law, roughly $170 billion is reserved for small businesses, and most of them can’t afford the recruiters, systems, capital or proposal teams to deliver it. Every agency and every large prime is required to find them. No one does the matching, and no one does the staffing, lending, technology and teaming together, at scale.
FedStone is being built to do it. Our goal is to become the largest and most valuable platform serving federal contractors.
Every contract we help a small business win puts veterans, graduates and workers displaced by AI into good jobs, and gives taxpayers significantly better value for every dollar the government spends, a mission both sides of the aisle can stand behind.
We are building this to collaborate, not to compete: with the major global enterprises and primes that need capable partners, the agencies that need them found, and the small and mid-size businesses that need a way in.
Who is leading it. Our healthcare platform is led by a former U.S. Assistant Secretary for Health, a four-star admiral of the Public Health Service. FedStone is being built by a team that also includes:
the chief executive of one of the largest government-owned venture investors in the country, with more than 400 portfolio companies
senior leaders from the industrial & healthcare turnaround practice of one of the world’s largest financial services companies, including a former chairman of one of its major businesses
a former chairman and chief executive of one of the largest U.S. financial services companies, who has also chaired a Fortune 500 board
further senior leaders now in discussion, including former Fortune 500 executives, public-company directors and audit chairs, former NYSE and Nasdaq chief financial officers, and private equity and capital markets partners from leading global firms
an advisory board of former senior officers and agency heads
The model. FedStone is a federal marketplace that also owns operating companies.
Certified small businesses get the platform, a secure communications channel, opportunity analysis and bid submission, at no cost.
Agencies, enterprises and large primes pay for access to those companies, for team assembly, and for a verified performance record of every company on the platform.
FedStone acquires through a federated model: the companies we buy keep their names, their leaders and their P&Ls, while FedStone provides the capital, technology and support to help them grow.
We start in healthcare. Our first acquisitions are:
a federal medical staffing prime
a national recruiting organization
a clinical technology platform serving many of the largest U.S. health payers
Behind them is a deep acquisition pipeline, and a team that has completed hundreds of acquisitions and led two exits of more than $1 billion each.
Healthcare is our first market for the same reason books were Amazon’s: the need is urgent, the money is already appropriated, and the incumbents aren’t serving it. In FY2026 every one of the VA’s 139 medical facilities reported severe staffing shortages, and one federal prison medical center had only 10 of its 42 nurse posts filled. We start by filling those funded positions fast, with clinicians who stay, and the recruiting, credentialing and capture engine we build doing it becomes the platform we offer every agency, prime and small business.
Built to scale. FedStone will grow through its own balance sheet and through an investment platform designed for institutional scale. We have already invested more than $1 million in building its U.S. and international structure, and we are working with the team at a major law firm that structured the NATO Innovation Fund. We expand from healthcare across federal services.
Our technology. Our team has built and invested in platforms for investment, M&A, integration and synergy tracking, sales, proposal and contract administration intelligence, and field and office operations, with no-code and AI tools that make people and processes more efficient and effective. Tens of thousands of people have already worked on them. They are in use today by major enterprises and government organizations in hazardous, security-sensitive operations, from safety inspections at a global energy company to field operations management for a city emergency management agency. Working with large international teams of developers, project managers, entrepreneurs and leaders, we have used these platforms to launch hundreds of new products and projects, and that is exactly what we will offer our partners, agencies and enterprises. The platform is largely built and is now being integrated with our other products and upgraded to enterprise-grade security standards.
The seat. You will join the former Assistant Secretary in building the healthcare platform, and help run the investment platform built around it:
evaluating, acquiring and integrating the companies we buy
serving on the boards of our operating companies
leading turnarounds and operating improvements across the portfolio
opening relationships with agencies, primes, payers and health systems
sourcing the next acquisitions, in healthcare and then across federal services
This is a senior operating and investment role, working alongside the chief executive and the acquisition team.
Who we’re looking for. You have run a federal health or government services business, led a health system or payer organization, turned around a large organization, or held a senior role at a federal health agency. You know the executives, agency leaders and investors in this sector, and they know you.
How we govern:
an independent board majority
a separate audit committee
compliance reporting to the board
a board-level policy on which contracts we pursue
clinical judgment kept independent of revenue
The terms. Flexible time commitment, from advisory to full-time operating roles. Compensation includes meaningful equity, with cash for active operating roles.
As the platform grows, we expect numerous leadership roles and opportunities across our companies, in healthcare and beyond.
All figures reflect current plans; targets, structure and terms may change. This is a job posting, not an offer of securities or fund interests.
