We’re looking for a creative, technically strong Design Engineer to lead the development of premium Recreational Vehicle (RV) and camper van interiors. This role connects conceptual design with real-world manufacturing. You’ll design ergonomic van layouts, create photorealistic renderings for clients, and produce the CAM data that drives our CNC machinery.
An RV is a complex system where aesthetics, structural integrity, and manufacturing efficiency all have to work together. If that challenge excites you, we’d like to see your work.
Key Responsibilities
Layout Design & Space Optimization
Design complete interior layouts for van platforms such as the Mercedes Sprinter, Ford Transit, and Ram ProMaster, maximizing storage, ergonomics, and livability.
Develop cabinetry, bed systems, galleys, and utility enclosures that account for vehicle curvature and road vibration.
Work with the build team so designs accommodate electrical wiring, plumbing, and insulation layers.
CAD/CAM & CNC Manufacturing
Create detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings in SolidWorks and Swood.
Generate toolpaths and G-code for CNC routers, and optimize nesting to reduce waste in plywood, MDF, and bamboo.
Troubleshoot machining issues and apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to simplify assembly.
Reverse Engineering
Build accurate digital twins of vehicle interiors, chassis, and equipment from 3D scan data or manual measurements.
Rendering & Visualization
Produce photorealistic renderings in SolidWorks Visualize or Blender for client approvals and marketing.
Requirements (Must Have)
Minimum 1 year of professional experience in product design, furniture design, or automotive upfitting.
A project portfolio showing your CAD models, drawings, and/or renderings. Applications without a portfolio will not be considered.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or equivalent practical experience.
Proficiency in parametric modeling (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
Experience generating 2D milling toolpaths and solid understanding of CNC router operations (speeds, feeds, tooling).
Nice to Have
Experience with mesh data (STL/OBJ) or 3D scanners.
Hands-on woodworking, carpentry, or metal fabrication experience.
Knowledge of 12V electrical systems and mobile plumbing standards.
Experience with Swood specifically.
Remote Setup Requirements
A personal workstation or laptop capable of running CAD/CAM and rendering software smoothly.
A stable, high-speed internet connection for video calls and large file transfers.
What We Offer
Permanent remote position
Internet reimbursement
The chance to see your designs built into real vehicles
How to Apply
Apply through LinkedIn and include a link to your portfolio (Google Drive, Behance, personal website, or PDF). Please highlight any furniture, cabinetry, vehicle, or CNC-related projects.
