About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Generative AI Developer (m/f/d) to join our interdisciplinary team within the "Computing" working group. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of artificial intelligence, focusing on the development, integration, and deployment of generative AI solutions tailored for sensitive and critical infrastructure. The position involves collaborating closely with customers from SMEs and startups, many of whom operate in sectors with stringent data protection requirements. You will contribute to the development of prototypes, workflows, and proof-of-concept solutions that advance GWDG's AI service portfolio and support innovative research and industry applications. The role is based within the subproject "KISSKI-EvoKS," part of the AI Service Center for Sensitive and Critical Infrastructure, and offers a dynamic environment to apply your expertise in AI, machine learning, and scientific computing.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess a successfully completed master’s degree in computer science or a closely related field. Strong programming skills in high-level languages, particularly Python, are essential. Proficiency in Linux environments, including Bash scripting, version control with Git, and working with containers, is required. A solid understanding of software engineering principles, including security and testing, is necessary. Experience with DevOps tools such as GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks like pytest is highly desirable. Knowledge of databases such as SQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, and experience with web development technologies including HTTP, FastAPI, HTML, and JavaScript are important. Familiarity with generative AI models—such as large language models, diffusion models—and frameworks like Pytorch or TensorFlow is also expected. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, along with fluency in German (C1) and English (C1), are required. Willingness to travel for business purposes is also necessary.
Responsibilities
The role encompasses a broad spectrum of responsibilities, which include but are not limited to designing tailored AI solutions to meet customer use cases by leveraging existing AI infrastructure. You will support companies and research institutions in developing AI services, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, and secure. Creating detailed blueprints, whitepapers, and technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders is part of the role, facilitating knowledge sharing and smooth handovers. Representing GWDG at workshops, conferences, and industry events to showcase innovative AI solutions is encouraged. You will be involved in integrating novel AI models into the GWDG AI service portfolio and the SAIA Platform (Scalable Artificial Intelligence Accelerator), ensuring cutting-edge technology adoption. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop prototypes and workflows that can evolve into production-grade solutions will be a key focus, fostering innovation and continuous improvement.
