Job Overview
A law firm seeks an experienced Senior Counsel attorney to join its growing Labor & Employment practice in Los Angeles. This role offers substantial opportunities for direct client interaction, case management, courtroom advocacy, and trial experience within a sophisticated employment litigation environment.
Duties
Manage a sophisticated caseload of 10-20 employment litigation matters from inception through resolution.
Investigate claims, prepare case strategies, and assess complaints filed in state and federal courts.
Draft and respond to discovery requests, pleadings, and motions; conduct legal research using Westlaw.
Take and defend expert and fact depositions; attend hearings and argue motions.
Prepare cases for mediation and trial, including co-chairing trials with direct and cross-examination of witnesses.
Provide strategic advice to clients on discipline, termination, and high-exposure public entity matters.
Requirements
Significant labor and employment litigation experience representing employers.
Public entity experience is strongly encouraged.
Demonstrated ability to independently manage litigation matters through all phases of the case lifecycle.
Exceptional legal research, writing, and communication skills.
Strong oral advocacy, interpersonal skills, and ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Education
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
Certifications
Admitted to the California Bar and in good standing.
Skills
Extensive experience in handling depositions, motion practice, mediations, and court appearances.
Ability to identify and resolve problems quickly.
Experience in mentoring and guiding junior associates.
