About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

About The Company
Vaco LLC is seeking a Payroll Manager on behalf of a leading corporate client with several thousand employees. This opportunity offers the chance to support a large, complex organization where accurate and dependable payroll operations are essential to the employee experience and the company’s financial controls. The successful candidate will bring strong payroll leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
About The Role
The Payroll Manager will oversee payroll operations and lead a small team of payroll professionals responsible for recurring weekly and biweekly payrolls. The role includes processing union and non-union payrolls, supporting payroll accounting, and coordinating payroll tax filings and reporting. You will help maintain accurate, timely, and compliant processes while responding to changing business needs and ensuring payroll matters are handled with appropriate care and confidentiality.
This position offers a highly hybrid and remote work schedule, with travel as needed for corporate meetings. The role is well suited to a hands-on payroll leader who can balance day-to-day execution with review, team guidance, and continuous attention to operational accuracy.
Qualifications
Candidates should have at least 10 years of payroll experience, including work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. Prior experience supporting organizations with complex payroll requirements is important, and experience with weekly union and non-union payrolls is required. Applicants should also bring experience with both weekly and biweekly payroll cycles.
A four-year college degree is required. Prior experience with UKG payroll software is expected, and experience with Viewpoint Vista is required. Candidates should be familiar with general journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, payroll tax processes, and the review of wage and benefits information. A Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) credential or a related certification is highly recommended.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, discretion, and the ability to manage deadlines are essential. The ideal candidate communicates clearly, works effectively with a small team, and can address payroll issues professionally while maintaining reliable processes across multiple employee groups.
Responsibilities
Lead and support a small team of payroll professionals, helping coordinate workload, uphold quality standards, and meet processing deadlines. Oversee accurate, timely, and compliant weekly and biweekly payroll processing for union and non-union employees. Review payroll results and resolve discrepancies, escalating complex matters when appropriate.
Prepare and review payroll-related general journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations. Conduct quarterly reviews of W-2 wage information to confirm the appropriate treatment of related benefits and state and local taxes. Coordinate the completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings, ensuring required information is prepared and submitted accurately and on schedule.
Help maintain payroll documentation and support consistent controls across payroll processes. Collaborate with relevant corporate stakeholders to address payroll questions, support meetings, and contribute to effective payroll operations. Protect confidential employee and compensation information in the course of all work.
Benefits
The client offers a highly flexible hybrid and remote schedule, with travel required as needed for corporate meetings. The opportunity includes top benefits and perks. Specific benefit plan details and eligibility information will be provided during the hiring process.
Equal Opportunity
Vaco LLC is an equal opportunity employer. Employment decisions are made without discrimination based on any characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law. Vaco LLC is committed to the full inclusion of qualified individuals and will provide reasonable accommodations during the application and interview process and in connection with essential job functions.
