Role Description The Accountant will support the university’s financial operations in a part-time, remote capacity. Day-to-day responsibilities include maintaining accurate financial records, preparing and reviewing vouchers, ledgers, and balance sheets, and assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking for academic and research activities. The role involves processing invoices and payments, reconciling bank and account statements, and ensuring compliance with institutional and government financial regulations and policies. The Accountant will collaborate with administrative and departmental staff to provide financial reports, support audits, and help streamline accounting processes using appropriate software tools. Consistent communication, timely documentation, and adherence to internal controls are essential components of this position.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong core accounting skills, including ledger management, journal entry preparation, bank reconciliation, and financial statement support.
Candidates should possess proficiency with accounting and office software (e.g., Tally or similar ERP, spreadsheets, and word processing tools) and the ability to work with digital records and remote collaboration platforms.
Candidates should possess knowledge of budgeting, cost control, and basic financial analysis to support academic, research, and extension projects.
Candidates should possess familiarity with relevant financial regulations, institutional policies, and audit practices applicable to public or educational institutions.
Candidates should possess strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks independently in a remote, part-time setting.
Candidates should possess effective written and verbal communication skills to coordinate with faculty, administrators, and finance teams.
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field is preferred; prior experience in an academic, non-profit, or government setting is an advantage.
