About The Role
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is seeking a highly skilled Lead Principal Network Developer (IC5) to join its Network Products Engineering team. This senior individual contributor role is pivotal in shaping the architectural vision, driving product strategy, and ensuring the delivery of industry-leading networking solutions that support OCI’s expansive global cloud footprint. The successful candidate will act as a technical authority, collaborating across multiple teams and partners to develop scalable, reliable, and innovative network systems that meet the demanding needs of OCI's customers. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership capabilities, capable of influencing without direct authority, and a deep understanding of network design, automation, testing, and reliability engineering.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in network engineering, architecture, or related roles within large-scale data centers or cloud environments is essential. Proven expertise in network design, automation scripting, testing methodologies, and monitoring systems is required. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and external vendors, are vital. Familiarity with industry standards, emerging technologies, and best practices in networking and cloud infrastructure is highly desirable. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills are also necessary for success in this role.
Responsibilities
Network Design, Development, and Validation:
Proactively consult on network design across internal teams to determine feasibility and develop advanced network fabric and systems supporting large-scale enterprise, data center, or cloud environments.
Oversee validation processes for production networks, ensuring scaling strategies align with organizational goals and future growth plans.
Influence architecture design and validation, providing industry-leading insights and validation to ensure network robustness and performance.
Anticipate and mitigate complex risks in network deployment, developing strategic recommendations for future-proof solutions.
Lead collaborations with vendors and internal teams to ensure firmware/software alignment, complex network configuration validation, and bug resolution.
Design playbooks for complex network issues and lead process optimization initiatives to improve efficiency.
Automation And Scripting
Lead development and maintenance of advanced automation frameworks to enhance testing and operational efficiency.
Automate critical network tasks across production and lab environments, optimizing repetitive support functions.
Create and customize dashboards, telemetry systems, and alerting mechanisms to proactively monitor network health.
Develop and enhance scripts that automate tasks across teams, driving organizational efficiency.
Architect and scale infrastructure pipelines, configuration management, and resource organization.
Testing And Quality Assurance
Improve existing test cases and develop new comprehensive testing strategies to ensure network integrity.
Provide leadership on test practices, ensuring robust validation protocols are in place.
Implement new approaches for break-fix validation and root cause analysis, ensuring continuous improvement.
Manage qualification processes across teams, vendors, and internal groups to validate systems pre-deployment.
Participate in governance, risk, and compliance audits, providing necessary documentation and walkthroughs.
Monitoring And Reliability
Develop dashboards, telemetry, and alerting systems to monitor network health and meet service level objectives.
Enhance detection and diagnosis tools for network anomalies, providing technical expertise during incident escalations.
Formalize incident response practices, ensuring effective issue handoff, accountability, and resolution.
Drive the development of tools and solutions to support frontline support teams and improve response times.
Cross-Team Collaboration And Leadership
Partner with project managers to ensure timely achievement of deployment milestones aligned with organizational strategies.
Mentor teams and provide industry-leading expertise to promote technical excellence and innovation.
Lead high-visibility incident response cases, delivering root cause analysis and preventive measures.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align roadmaps and develop network strategies supporting business objectives.
Performance And Capacity Management
Analyze network performance metrics to identify efficiency issues and design capacity plans for future growth.
Predict future network demands, writing design documents and white papers to support organizational changes.
