Role Description This is a remote, volunteer role for a Linux System Administrator at Outcome School. The Linux System Administrator will support the design, configuration, and maintenance of Linux-based servers and related infrastructure that power the school’s learning platforms and internal tools. Daily responsibilities include monitoring system performance, managing user accounts and permissions, performing updates and security patches, and ensuring reliable backups and recovery processes. The role also involves troubleshooting technical issues, providing technical support to staff and instructors, and collaborating with the team to improve system reliability, security, and scalability. Volunteers may also contribute to documentation of system configurations and best practices, and advise on infrastructure improvements that enhance the learning experience for participants.
Qualifications
Strong System Administration and Linux System Administration skills, including user management, package management, and server configuration.
Proficiency in Troubleshooting and Technical Support for Linux environments and common infrastructure-related issues.
Knowledge of Network Security principles, including firewalls, access control, and security best practices for remote services.
Experience with scripting or automation tools (e.g., Bash, Python, Ansible) is highly beneficial.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) or virtualization technologies is a plus.
Ability to work independently in a remote setting, communicate clearly, and collaborate with a distributed team.
Commitment to Outcome School’s mission of supporting underserved youth and interest in education or workforce development.
Relevant certifications or practical experience in Linux administration, system operations, or cybersecurity are advantageous.
