Role Description This is a remote, volunteer role for a Cyber Security Specialist supporting Outcome School’s cybersecurity pathways and learning experiences. The Cyber Security Specialist will help design and review curriculum content, create practical labs and projects, and ensure that learning materials reflect current cyber threats, tools, and best practices. Day-to-day responsibilities may include mentoring learners, answering technical questions, reviewing project work, and providing guidance on secure design and incident response. The role may also involve advising on secure practices for school systems and platforms, collaborating with staff and other volunteers, and participating in virtual sessions or workshops focused on workforce readiness and job skills in cybersecurity.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong Cybersecurity and Information Security skills, including familiarity with common threats, vulnerabilities, and security frameworks.
Candidates should possess expertise in Network Security, including secure network design, monitoring, and incident detection and response.
Candidates should possess Application Security skills, including secure coding practices, code review, and understanding of web and API security issues.
Candidates should possess general Cyber skills, such as working with security tools, conducting risk assessments, and applying security policies and procedures.
Experience in education, mentoring, or training in a technical field is beneficial, especially with underserved or early-career learners.
Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts in clear, accessible language are important.
Relevant certifications (e.g., Security+, CEH, CISSP, or similar) or equivalent practical experience are advantageous.
Comfort working remotely with collaborative tools and a commitment to Outcome School’s mission of expanding access to high-growth tech careers.
