About The Role
We are actively seeking a talented Public Credit Research Analyst to join our Public Credit Analysis team based in Newport Beach, California. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a seasoned investment professional to contribute significantly to Pacific Life’s investment strategies. While the preferred location is Newport Beach, remote work may be considered depending on the candidate’s geographic location, with relocation assistance provided if necessary. This is a Director-level position, reflecting the importance and seniority of the role within our investment division. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting in-depth credit research, analyzing fixed-income securities within the US Bank sector, and providing actionable buy, sell, or hold recommendations to support the company's general account investments. This role is instrumental in ensuring that Pacific Life’s investment portfolio aligns with its risk appetite and strategic objectives, ultimately contributing to the financial stability and growth of the organization.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess over seven years of investment research experience, with a minimum of two years specifically focused on the US Bank sector. A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or a related field is required; advanced certifications such as CFA or MBA are highly preferred. Demonstrated ability to analyze and model financial metrics, understand bank regulations, and assess business strategies is essential. Familiarity with financial markets, products, and databases such as Bloomberg, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, will be advantageous. Candidates must have excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex financial concepts clearly and concisely. A strong understanding of capital requirements and regulatory frameworks affecting banks will enable the candidate to provide insightful analysis and recommendations.
Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive fundamental credit research on investment-grade and high-yield corporate credits within the US Bank sector, including regional banks and large financial institutions.
Develop and communicate buy, sell, or hold recommendations based on thorough analysis to support the investment decision-making process for the company's general account.
Collaborate closely with senior bank analysts and the broader Public Credit Analysis and Portfolio Management teams to identify optimal investment opportunities and manage risk effectively.
Maintain and develop relationships with sell-side analysts, credit rating agencies, and other external information providers to stay updated on industry trends and credit developments.
Analyze financial statements, industry trends, and regulatory impacts to produce well-informed credit assessments.
Monitor existing investments and market conditions continuously, adjusting strategies as needed to optimize portfolio performance.
