Role Overview
We are looking for an Elasticsearch / Elastic Enterprise Search Consultant with strong hands-on experience in Elasticsearch and Enterprise Search technologies.
In this role, you will work closely with technical and business stakeholders to understand requirements, assess technical feasibility, and design effective search solutions. You will contribute to scalable backend solutions, provide technical guidance, and help bridge the gap between business requirements and technical implementation.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java-based backend applications and microservices, with a focus on performance, reliability, and maintainability.
Work extensively with Elasticsearch, including Query DSL/API, mappings, relevance, scoring, and indexed data structures.
Design and implement solutions using Elastic Enterprise Search, including App Search, Workplace Search, connectors, and web crawling capabilities.
Assess business requirements and translate them into technically feasible Elasticsearch and Enterprise Search solutions.
Analyse existing search implementations and recommend improvements related to performance, relevance, scalability, and data structures.
Develop high-quality code following clean code principles, testing standards, and performance optimisation best practices.
Collaborate with DevOps teams on containerisation, application deployment, and CI/CD integration.
Contribute to event-driven and asynchronous architectures designed for scalability and loosely coupled services.
Design and maintain efficient integrations with relational databases while ensuring data integrity and system responsiveness.
Participate in architectural discussions and code reviews, promoting consistent engineering standards and best practices.
Use AI-powered coding assistants and intelligent development tools to improve productivity, accelerate development, and maintain high code quality.
Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and provide constructive feedback on requirements and specifications.
Collaborate with Business Analysts, Product teams, and other functional stakeholders to ensure business needs are effectively translated into technical solutions.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced developers and contribute to a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
RequirementsTechnical Skills
3+ years of hands-on experience with Elasticsearch, including:
Elasticsearch Query DSL / API
Index mappings
Relevance and scoring
Indexed data structures
Query optimisation and troubleshooting
1+ year of experience with Elastic Enterprise Search, including one or more of:
App Search
Workplace Search
Connectors
Web Crawler
Strong ability to assess the technical feasibility of Elasticsearch and Enterprise Search solutions against business requirements.
Good understanding of scalable backend architectures and microservices.
Experience with relational databases and application-to-database integrations.
Understanding of modern deployment practices, containerisation, and CI/CD.
Knowledge of event-driven and asynchronous architectures.
Consulting & Communication Skills
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Experience reviewing business requirements or technical specifications and providing clear, actionable feedback.
Ability to effectively bridge business requirements and technical implementation.
1+ year of experience working with or supporting Business Analysts, Product Owners, or other business/functional teams is a strong advantage.
Language Requirements
German – C1 level is mandatory.
English – good professional communication skills.
Nice to Have
Development experience with Java, Python, or a similar programming language.
Experience integrating backend applications with Elasticsearch.
Experience with Elastic Cloud or other cloud-based Elasticsearch environments.
Elastic certifications, such as Elastic Certified Engineer.
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
Familiarity with AI-powered development and coding assistants.
