About The Role
The Assistant Vice President (AVP), Mobile Backend Developer role at Barclays is a critical position designed to lead and develop scalable mobile applications and microservices that enhance the bank’s mobile platform. This role requires a strategic thinker with advanced technical expertise who can provide technical leadership within cross-functional teams. The AVP will be responsible for designing secure, high-performance backend systems that support the bank’s mobile applications, ensuring they meet all functional and non-functional requirements such as capacity, availability, and response times. The position involves close collaboration with product managers, architects, UI/UX designers, and other stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions that improve user experience and operational efficiency. The AVP will play a pivotal role in maintaining the technical integrity of applications throughout their lifecycle, ensuring quality, security, and scalability are prioritized at every stage of development.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. A master’s degree or relevant certifications such as AWS, Azure, or Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) are advantageous. Extensive experience in backend development, particularly with mobile applications and microservices architecture, is essential. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, or Swift, along with experience in API design, security protocols, and cloud-based solutions, is required. Strong understanding of secure coding practices, Agile methodologies, and DevOps principles is expected. Candidates should demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, leadership qualities, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment. Prior experience within the banking or financial services industry is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership within a team responsible for designing and developing scalable mobile backend applications and microservices.
Ensure all functional and non-functional requirements, including capacity planning, availability, and response times, are met and maintained.
Architect applications utilizing proven design patterns, ensuring full security through authentication and authorization methods.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, architects, and UI/UX designers, to define system contracts, improve API usability, and troubleshoot issues.
Participate in technical planning using agile methodologies to ensure seamless delivery and operational stability.
Utilize AI-powered tools to identify errors and provide timely resolutions within defined SLAs.
Work closely with UI/UX teams to create intuitive, visually appealing interfaces that enhance user engagement.
Maintain the technical integrity and quality of applications throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
Review test strategies and cases to ensure comprehensive coverage of potential edge cases and software robustness.
