It addresses challenges in online and hybrid education by providing a dedicated Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning that supports faculty development and course quality improvement.
2. About the Opportunity:
The Instructional Designer plays a critical role in enhancing online and hybrid learning by collaborating with faculty to design and develop effective, accessible, and engaging courses. This position supports continuous course improvement, faculty development initiatives, and the integration of instructional technology to promote student achievement and teaching excellence.
3. Responsibilities:
Collaborate with faculty to design, develop, and enhance online and hybrid courses.
Apply instructional design methodologies and online learning best practices.
Develop instructional materials, multimedia resources, learning activities, and assessments.
Guide faculty through course redesign and continuous improvement processes.
Serve as an advanced practitioner and consultant for Canvas LMS.
Design and build course structures, modules, assessments, and learning pathways within Canvas.
Support faculty in using Canvas tools and troubleshoot instructional and technical challenges.
Partner with faculty to align learning outcomes, assessments, and instructional activities.
Support assessment and measurement of student learning outcomes within Canvas.
Use course and program data to inform continuous improvement and accreditation initiatives.
Design and facilitate faculty development opportunities such as workshops and training programs.
Create web-based resources and instructional content to support faculty growth.
Lead and contribute to institutional projects related to online learning and instructional innovation.
Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies and instructional practices.
4. Requirements:
Significant experience in instructional design within higher education.
Proven success collaborating with faculty on course design and online learning initiatives.
Advanced expertise in Canvas LMS, including course development and technology integration.
Knowledge of Quality Matters standards, WCAG accessibility guidelines, adult learning theory, and evidence-based online teaching practices.
Experience in assessing student learning outcomes and using data to improve courses.
Strong consultation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities.
Professionalism and capability to work independently.
Commitment to collaboration, service, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning or similar unit.
Experience designing and facilitating faculty workshops and professional development.
Support for accreditation, program assessment, or institutional effectiveness initiatives.
Familiarity with learning analytics and data-informed teaching improvement.
5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:
Salary: $85,000 per year.
