Backend Engineer, Flag Delivery

2. About the Opportunity:
The Backend Engineer, Flag Delivery role is responsible for building and maintaining the systems that stream feature-flag configurations to connected clients worldwide in near real-time. This position contributes to the reliability and performance of critical infrastructure that directly impacts the organization''s ability to provide clients with control over feature releases. The role involves ownership of projects from design through production, ensuring services are reliable, low-latency, and maintainable.
3. Responsibilities:
Build, ship, and operate features and services in streaming and polling infrastructure.
Own projects end to end, including design, implementation, rollout, and operational maintenance.
Investigate and resolve production issues and participate in on-call support rotations.
Write maintainable, well-tested code and engage in code and design reviews.
Enhance observability and reliability of owned code.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and product teams.
Develop skills in distributed systems and production operations with senior engineer mentorship.
4. Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years professional experience in software engineering with production services.
Proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., Go, Rust, Python, Java) and familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS.
Strong fundamentals in data structures, concurrency, API design, and testing.
Experience debugging production issues and willingness to participate in on-call rotations.
Familiarity with observability tools, including dashboards, logs, and traces.
Ability to decompose ambiguous tasks and drive them to completion.
Effective written and verbal communication skills and openness to feedback.
5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:
Target pay ranges based on geographic zones for this level:
Zone 1 (San Francisco/Bay Area, NYC Metropolitan Area, Boston, Seattle): $171,200 - $235,400
Zone 2 (Irvine, LA, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Austin, Portland, Philadelphia, Chicago): $154,100 - $211,860
Zone 3 (All other US locations): $145,500 - $200,090
Compensation includes restricted stock units, health, vision, dental insurance, and mental health benefits.
