About The Role
The Backend Security Engineer role at Synthires offers a unique opportunity for experienced software engineers with a cybersecurity background to contribute to groundbreaking AI training projects. This position is primarily remote and involves developing complex, realistic coding tasks designed to enhance the performance and security of next-generation AI systems. As a contractor working approximately 15 hours per week, you will leverage your expertise in backend development, security principles, and software troubleshooting to create challenging problems that test and improve AI models' ability to solve real-world engineering and security scenarios. This role does not require prior AI experience but demands a strong foundation in backend engineering and cybersecurity practices.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess a robust background in backend software engineering, with extensive experience in languages such as Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, TypeScript, Python, or C++. Proven expertise in building scalable backend services and APIs is essential, along with strong debugging and performance optimization skills. Candidates must demonstrate familiarity with automated testing, software validation, and code review processes, ensuring high-quality deliverables. A solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and core computer science principles is required. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are vital for success in a remote work environment. Responsibilities
Create challenging, realistic coding tasks involving backend development, feature implementation, debugging, and security-focused problem solving.
Design tasks that emulate real-world software engineering and cybersecurity challenges to effectively train AI models.
Implement deterministic verifiers capable of reliably accepting valid solutions and rejecting invalid or incomplete ones.
Develop and evaluate backend services, APIs, and software components using languages such as Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, TypeScript, Python, and C++.
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve software bugs, performance issues, and system-level problems to ensure robust task performance.
Apply secure coding principles and cybersecurity best practices to relevant engineering tasks to enhance system security.
Conduct thorough code reviews focusing on correctness, security, maintainability, and performance metrics.
Refactor existing codebases and implement complex features within large-scale applications to improve efficiency and security.
Develop automated testing frameworks and validation mechanisms to ensure the reliability of task evaluations.
Document technical decisions, debugging strategies, security considerations, and solution expectations for transparency and reproducibility.
Collaborate effectively with remote teams, maintaining high standards of accuracy, quality, and communication throughout project phases.
