Overview
We are looking for a technically minded and detail-oriented Technical Assessment Support Specialist to support a UK-based construction training provider with the preparation and review of learner assessment portfolios.
This is not a traditional assessor role and formal UK assessor qualifications are not required. The role involves reviewing technical evidence, understanding assessment requirements, preparing documentation and using specialised tools to support the assessment process. You will need to understand the information you are working with, identify issues and apply your own judgement rather than simply following a checklist.
The ideal candidate will have a background in engineering, construction, STEM, technical work, vocational training or another analytical field, along with strong written English and excellent attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Portfolio Review
Review learner evidence and determine whether it is relevant, complete and suitable for the assessment process.
Review technical evidence including photographs, videos, site documents and written evidence
Understand technical information and relate it to structured assessment criteria
Identify missing, unclear or unsuitable evidence
Use specialised assessment support tools and review their outputs for accuracy
Apply sound judgement when reviewing technical information
Assessment Documentation
Prepare accurate documentation to support the assessor and internal quality assurance process.
Complete observation and assessment-related documentation
Map learner evidence against relevant criteria
Review workbooks and provide appropriate feedback
Prepare files for the next stage of the assessment process
Ensure documentation is complete, clear and properly organised
Quality & Accuracy
Maintain a high standard of accuracy across learner files.
Check work carefully before submitting files for quality assurance
Identify inconsistencies, gaps or errors in evidence and documentation
Ensure files meet the required standards before they are passed forward
Take responsibility for the quality of your own work
Workflow & Communication
Manage assigned portfolios efficiently and communicate clearly when issues arise.
Work through allocated learner files within agreed timeframes
Keep files and folders organised and up to date
Communicate clearly when information or evidence is missing
Work independently while following established processes and deadlines
Key Requirements
Previous experience in a technical, engineering, construction, STEM, vocational or analytical role
Ability to understand and interpret technical information
Strong written and spoken English
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Comfortable working with documents, structured criteria and evidence
Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new systems quickly
Comfortable using modern digital tools to support technical and documentation-based work
Able to critically review information rather than simply accepting an automated or suggested output
Strong organisation and ability to manage multiple files and deadlines
Able to work independently and use judgement when dealing with unfamiliar information
Willingness to learn UK-specific construction and assessment terminology
Formal UK assessor qualifications are not required for this position.
Nice to Have
Background in construction or engineering
Technical or engineering qualification
Experience with vocational training, assessment or compliance documentation
Familiarity with UK construction, CSCS, NVQ or similar frameworks
Experience reviewing technical evidence or compliance documentation
Experience working with OneDrive, Word, WhatsApp or similar systems
Previous experience supporting a UK-based business
Romanian language skills
