About The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Data Scientist to join our client’s dynamic team on a contract basis for an initial period of three months. This role is based in Manchester with a hybrid work model, offering a flexible balance between remote work and on-site collaboration. The primary focus of this position is to contribute to the development of a next-generation intelligent discovery platform that leverages artificial intelligence to revolutionize how users search, discover, and interact with products. The successful candidate will work at the forefront of emerging AI technologies, including agentic search, recommendation systems, and personalization, directly impacting the customer experience by building scalable, impactful models integrated into production systems.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in data science, machine learning, and AI development, with a proven track record of deploying models into production environments. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field is required. Experience with Python, SQL, and Snowflake is essential, alongside a deep understanding of data manipulation, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques. Familiarity with explainable AI methods such as SHAP, as well as knowledge of agentic AI concepts like goal-driven systems and multi-step reasoning, will be advantageous. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams are also key requirements.
Responsibilities
The Data Scientist will be responsible for designing, developing, and refining machine learning models that enhance search, recommendation, and personalization features. This includes exploring innovative AI concepts such as agentic search and reasoning, and applying them to real-world scenarios to improve user engagement and relevance. The role involves working hands-on with large datasets using Python, SQL, and Snowflake to develop features, evaluate models, and identify opportunities for optimization. The candidate will be expected to analyze model behaviour using explainability techniques like SHAP, translating complex outputs into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders. Collaboration with Data, Product, and Engineering teams is vital to shaping the strategic direction of the platform and ensuring models are seamlessly integrated into production systems. Additionally, continuous improvement of search relevance and ranking, as well as leveraging AI to augment discovery journeys, will be core aspects of the role.
