About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Developer with expertise in Python to join a dynamic team within a prestigious tier 1 bank. This is a 6-month contract position based in London with a hybrid working model, offering flexibility and a collaborative work environment. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing, modernizing, and maintaining critical backend systems that support the bank’s core business operations. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design scalable, reliable, and efficient solutions that align with the organization’s strategic objectives. This role is ideal for a proactive problem-solver with a passion for clean code, automated testing, and system optimization in a fast-paced financial services setting.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in backend development with a focus on Python, complemented by strong experience in database management and microservices architecture. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in SQL and advanced database development, along with familiarity with event-driven systems such as Kafka or Tibco. Knowledge of container orchestration tools like Kubernetes or OpenShift is essential, as is experience with monitoring and alerting tools such as Prometheus and Grafana. A proven track record of implementing TDD and automated testing practices, along with experience supporting production environments, is required. Familiarity with Agile methodologies and delivery practices is also important to ensure seamless integration within the team.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain robust backend systems using Python, ensuring high performance and scalability.
Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
Implement microservices and event-driven architectures to support distributed systems and real-time data processing.
Develop and optimize SQL queries and database schemas to ensure data integrity and efficiency.
Utilize Kafka, Tibco, or similar messaging systems for reliable data streaming and integration.
Containerize applications using Kubernetes or OpenShift, ensuring smooth deployment and scalability.
Implement automated testing frameworks and promote TDD practices to enhance code quality.
Provide production support, troubleshoot issues, and perform root cause analysis to minimize system downtime.
Participate in Agile development cycles, contributing to sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
Support legacy system modernization initiatives, ensuring seamless transition and minimal disruption.
