About the role

About Andera
Andera is building reliable AI agents for back-office finance, starting with automating audits for the world's largest public companies.
Audits have resisted automation for decades due to the scale and instability of the underlying data. Large companies generate hundreds of millions of tokens of financial data across massive spreadsheets with constantly changing formats. Even understanding a single document can take expert auditors six or more hours, and a typical audit involves many of them.
We're building agents that can parse, interpret, and reason over data of this complexity—compressing gigabytes of messy financial information into representations that large language models can work with reliably. The result is turning weeks of manual audit work into minutes of review.
This work requires long-horizon reasoning, robust data systems, and production-grade reliability—and it forms the foundation for automating some of the most complex financial workflows in the world.
Andera is founded on the belief that solving this problem requires pairing elite auditors with elite engineers to drive innovation and excellence.
Engineering team: Alumni of MIT, Berkeley, and Waterloo, with experience at Jane Street, Stripe, Shopify, and Microsoft.
Audit team: Former performers at Deloitte and leaders of national finance practices at Revolut.
About The Role
We're hiring a Lead AI Engineer to set the technical direction for the agent systems at the core of autonomous financial audits. You will own the architecture for long-horizon reasoning and large-scale data ingestion, elevate the reliability standards, and lead the engineering team building alongside you.
This role offers high ownership, with responsibilities spanning architecture design, deployment, and technical leadership across the entire agent stack. You will influence the future of AI-driven financial auditing by developing scalable, dependable systems that can process and interpret vast and complex datasets efficiently.
Qualifications
Extensive experience in building complex agent or workflow-based systems, with a deep understanding of planning, tool use, memory management, and failure modes—capable of designing systems similar to Claude-style agents from scratch.
A proven track record in technical leadership—owning system architecture and mentoring engineering teams without stepping back from hands-on coding.
Strong fundamentals in full-stack and systems engineering—designing fault-tolerant features, managing concurrent workloads over large datasets, and ensuring throughput, retries, backpressure, and observability.
Ability to quickly learn and adapt to non-engineering domains—absorbing audit concepts from domain experts and translating them into functional systems efficiently.
Experience with or familiarity with our tech stack: TypeScript, Python, Temporal, Docker, Terraform, AWS Fargate.
Responsibilities
Designing and owning the architecture of AI agent systems, including planning, memory management, tool integration, and recovery mechanisms, with a focus on making these systems dependable and scalable.
Establishing standards for evaluation, testing, and observability of agent behavior in production environments to ensure reliability and performance.
Splitting and executing large workloads—processing over 100GB of data efficiently across processes and threads, optimizing for speed and resource utilization.
Leading technical reviews, mentoring engineers, and making strategic build-vs-buy and model selection decisions to advance system capabilities.
Collaborating closely with audit experts to rapidly translate new workflows into functional agent capabilities, delivering results within hours rather than weeks.
Benefits
Andera offers a dynamic and innovative work environment where your contributions directly impact the future of financial automation. We provide competitive compensation packages, comprehensive health benefits, and flexible work arrangements to support work-life balance. Our team fosters continuous learning and professional growth through mentorship, training programs, and opportunities to work on cutting-edge AI and data systems. Additionally, you will be part of a mission-driven organization dedicated to transforming complex financial workflows and enhancing transparency and efficiency in the finance industry.
Equal Opportunity
Andera is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, or any other protected status. We believe that a diverse team fosters innovation and drives our success, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds to join us in shaping the future of financial automation.
