About The Role
The Barclays Services Corp. is seeking a highly skilled Java Developer - Markets Post Trade to join its dynamic team in Whippany, NJ. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale, high-volume data processing systems integral to the firm’s trading operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, enhancing, and maintaining sophisticated Big Data systems utilizing Java and related technologies. They will play a pivotal role in designing data ingestion solutions, processing real-time XML messages, and ensuring the robustness and efficiency of trading-related applications. The role requires active participation in Agile Scrum processes, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and engagement with external stakeholders to understand and address complex business needs.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Proven experience in Java development, particularly within financial services or trading environments, is essential. Strong knowledge of Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, HDFS, HBase, and Spark is required. Familiarity with shell scripting, IBM Message Queues, and XML message processing is highly desirable. Excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to analyze high-volume data streams, and experience in Agile methodologies are necessary. A demonstrated understanding of secure coding practices, data transformation, and data ingestion pipelines will be advantageous. Certification in relevant technologies or methodologies, such as Java certifications or Scrum certifications, will be a plus.
Responsibilities
Develop and enhance large-scale Big Data systems using Java and related frameworks to support trading operations and post-trade processing.
Create shell scripts to process files and execute Java, Scala, and Spark programs tailored for Big Data processing and routine tasks.
Participate actively in requirement analysis, Agile Scrum ceremonies, and code review sessions to ensure high-quality deliverables.
Analyze and transform high-volume real-time XML messages received via IBM Message Queues, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
Design and implement data ingestion solutions from diverse sources, involving data transformation, filtering, and loading into HDFS and HBase.
Implement static code analysis and coverage tools such as SonarQube, JaCoCo, Maven, and TeamCity to maintain code quality standards.
Collaborate with external stakeholders to understand the impact of trade data, feeds, and financial information on business operations.
Develop retrieval mechanisms for live data-in-rest, ensuring quick and reliable access to critical information.
Engage in effort estimation, technical documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize system performance.
Adhere to secure coding practices and participate in testing strategies to ensure system robustness and security.
