About the Opportunity:
The TEST ENGINEER role supports a Department of Veterans Affairs program by ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of critical applications. This position contributes by designing, developing, and executing both manual and automated test cases to validate functionality, maintain compliance with federal standards, and support delivery through collaboration with technical and stakeholder teams.
Responsibilities:
Perform manual testing including test design, execution, and various testing types for full requirement coverage
Develop and execute automated test scripts for functional, regression, integration, API, accessibility, and performance testing
Conduct backend API testing and validation using tools like Swagger UI, POSTMAN, and SOAP UI
Use model-based test automation tools such as Tricentis Tosca to design and maintain automated tests
Perform backend and SQL database testing for data validation and integrity
Develop and enhance automated test frameworks using tools like Selenium and Postman
Collaborate with development and testing teams to identify scenarios, debug issues, and ensure testability
Analyze test results, document defects, and track resolutions using defect-tracking tools
Ensure compliance with VA, federal, and program-specific standards including accessibility and modernization requirements
Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning and retrospectives
Support continuous improvement of QA processes and automation coverage
Report on test execution, coverage, and quality metrics to QA leadership
Requirements:
U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust or VA-required clearance
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
3–5+ years of software testing experience including automation knowledge
Hands-on experience with manual testing, API/backend testing, and SQL database testing
Strong understanding of SDLC, STLC, and Agile methodologies
Experience in secure, regulated, or federal environments
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Detail-oriented with commitment to quality and compliance
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced Agile federal environment
Quick learner able to absorb new tools, systems, and domain knowledge
Preferred qualifications include experience with Tricentis Tosca, prior federal agency support, familiarity with VA systems, performance testing tools, and cloud platforms.
Pay Range and Compensation Package:
The base salary range for this position is $89,000 to $100,000 annually, depending on factors including geographic location, experience, skills, education, internal equity, security clearance, and contract requirements.
