About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Backend Engineer to join our innovative eCommerce team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, architecting, and optimizing scalable microservices that underpin our enterprise platforms. Your expertise will ensure seamless integration across various systems including commerce, content management systems (CMS), enterprise resource planning (ERP), product information management (PIM), and marketing platforms. You will champion best practices in modularization, API design, and event-driven architectures utilizing technologies such as Node.js, TypeScript, Docker, Kubernetes, and serverless solutions.
As a technical leader, you will oversee backend engineering policies, establish CI/CD pipelines, and automate testing processes to guarantee reliable deployments. You will define logging, observability, and disaster recovery strategies to maintain high system availability. Collaborating closely with frontend, DevOps, and data teams, you will optimize system performance and scalability. Mentoring engineering teams and contributing to architectural decisions will be integral to your responsibilities, making this role ideal for someone with extensive experience in backend system design and distributed architectures.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in backend system design, distributed applications, and eCommerce platforms
Proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript
Experience with cloud-native platforms, preferably Azure
Strong knowledge of databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis
Hands-on experience with microservices architecture and event-driven systems (Kafka, NATS)
Familiarity with API standards including REST and GraphQL
Experience with unit, integration, and contract testing frameworks such as Jest, Mocha, and Pact
Proficiency in CI/CD tools like Terraform and Pulumi
Knowledge of cloud services including AWS and Azure, serverless computing, Kubernetes, and containerization
Proven mentoring skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
Responsibilities
Design and develop scalable, cloud-native microservices that ensure platform interoperability
Implement and advocate for modular, API-first, event-driven, and domain-driven design principles
Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and backend tooling standards
Drive adoption of best practices for service-to-service communication, including REST, GraphQL, and gRPC
Lead disaster recovery planning and define observability, logging, and monitoring strategies
Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, and data teams to optimize APIs, caching strategies, and database performance
Mentor and guide engineering team members to foster technical excellence and growth
Participate in architectural decision-making and contribute to the continuous improvement of backend systems
