About The Role
We are seeking a talented Backend Software Engineer to join our dynamic team in a hybrid capacity, based in NYC, Portland, Boise, or Bozeman. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and maintaining the core systems that power our product and facilitate seamless integration with the tools our customers use daily. Your responsibilities will include designing and building backend services, APIs, integrations, and data pipelines that handle complex data ingestion, transformation, and synchronization tasks. You will work on integrating external platforms such as Salesforce, developing APIs for new product features, and creating pipelines that convert unstructured customer data into AI-friendly formats. As our product scales, your expertise will help evolve our backend architecture to support increased data volume, new integrations, and advanced workflows. This position offers an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working across diverse systems, making sense of messy data, and designing reliable, scalable software solutions in a fast-paced startup environment.
Qualifications
4+ years of experience as a backend, platform, or infrastructure-focused software engineer
Proficiency in TypeScript, with experience building production backend systems
Strong understanding of designing, building, and maintaining backend services in a production environment
Experience designing APIs, working with databases, and making thoughtful data-modeling decisions
Hands-on experience integrating with third-party platforms or APIs, including webhooks, rate limits, retries, and asynchronous processing
Knowledge of moving, transforming, mapping, normalizing, or synchronizing data between different systems
Ability to debug distributed workflows, considering failure modes, idempotency, observability, and reliability
Pragmatic approach to technical tradeoffs and ability to work effectively in an early-stage environment
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain backend services that support GetWhys' core product functionalities
Create and manage integrations with external platforms through APIs, webhooks, and other patterns
Develop systems for ingesting, transforming, normalizing, and synchronizing data across multiple sources and platforms
Own and optimize APIs, data models, and services that enable customer-facing features and internal tools
Work with both structured and unstructured data, supporting search, analytics, and AI-powered workflows
Design reliable background jobs and asynchronous workflows for efficient data processing
Enhance the reliability, performance, observability, and scalability of production systems
Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to translate ambiguous product needs into pragmatic technical solutions
Contribute to evolving the backend architecture to accommodate growth in usage, integrations, and data volume
