About The Role
The Staff AI Engineer role at Capital One offers an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled technical professional to contribute to the company’s AI-driven initiatives. As a key member of the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences (IFX) team, you will be instrumental in developing and deploying advanced AI systems that enhance customer interactions and operational efficiencies. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, research scientists, product managers, and program managers, to create scalable, responsible, and innovative AI products. Your expertise will be pivotal in designing, developing, and optimizing foundational AI models, including large language models, similarity search systems, and governance frameworks. This role provides a platform to influence the long-term AI strategy at Capital One, driving technological advancements that redefine banking experiences for millions of customers.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with at least 8 years of experience in AI/ML development, or Master’s degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, Scala, or Java with a minimum of 8 years of experience
Experience deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure
Strong understanding of AI and ML algorithms, especially in large language models, similarity search, and vector databases
Demonstrated leadership in architecting complex AI systems and mentoring engineering teams
Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
Deep knowledge of hardware and software optimization techniques for AI workloads
Relevant advanced degrees such as a Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field (preferred)
Responsibilities
Partner with multidisciplinary teams to design, develop, and deliver AI-powered products that transform customer and employee experiences
Develop, test, and deploy AI software components including foundation model training, large language model inference, and similarity search systems
Implement and refine AI guardrails, governance protocols, and observability practices to ensure responsible AI deployment
Leverage open-source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Nemo Guardrails, PyTorch, and VectorDBs
Innovate and optimize large language model performance, scalability, latency, and cost-efficiency through cutting-edge techniques
Contribute to the strategic vision and roadmap for foundational AI systems at Capital One
Stay current with the latest AI research and incorporate novel techniques into production systems
Mentor junior engineers and influence cross-functional stakeholders to adopt best practices in AI engineering
