About The Role
The Staff Accountant I plays a vital role within the Finance Department, primarily responsible for managing the daily accounting transactions and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data processed through the automated accounting system. This position involves collaborating with internal teams and external auditors to maintain compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and funding requirements. The Staff Accountant I will handle various financial activities, including processing payments, managing accounts receivable, preparing journal entries, and supporting audit procedures. The role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a thorough understanding of accounting principles, particularly GAAP and GASB standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Effective communication skills
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Superior analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
In-depth understanding of GAAP & GASB principles
Experience with financial accounting statements
Aptitude for numbers and quantitative analysis
Responsibilities
Document financial transactions by entering details into the NetSuite system
Process, submit, and record payment requisitions from various funding sources on a scheduled basis
Create and manage customer invoices and oversee collections of Accounts Receivable
Record and process daily lockbox receipts accurately
Perform month-end closing activities, including journal entries and reconciliations
Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with funding regulations and requirements
Adhere to established procedures and policies, recommending process improvements where applicable
Collaborate with Finance management during annual audits and other review processes
Maintain confidentiality of all financial and organizational information
Ensure all activities are compliant with GAAP & GASB principles
Perform additional duties as assigned by management
