About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer II to join our Data Engineering team at Splice. In this role, you will be instrumental in scaling and maintaining the platform that powers critical functions such as creator payouts, revenue reporting, and product analytics across our diverse product lines. Your expertise will help build and sustain a reliable, governed data infrastructure that ensures teams across Splice operate from a trusted, consistent source of truth. This position involves hands-on data pipeline development, optimization, and monitoring, requiring a strong domain knowledge of data systems and a proactive approach to data quality and reliability. As a mid-level engineer, you will manage features from technical design through to delivery, monitoring, and documentation, contributing significantly to our data ecosystem and on-call support rotation.
Qualifications
3+ years of hands-on data engineering experience in a production environment
Proficiency in SQL, including window functions, CTEs, query optimization, and execution plan analysis
Proficiency in Python for pipeline logic, data transformation, and testing
Experience with modern transformation frameworks such as SQLMesh, dbt, or equivalent
Hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses, specifically BigQuery, including partitioning, clustering, and cost management
Experience with workflow orchestrators like Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect
Proven ability to build observable and reliable data systems, including alerting, dashboards, and data quality checks
Strong ownership skills, capable of managing small to medium features from design to deployment with minimal guidance
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain data models in SQLMesh, including implementing incremental strategies, testing, and documentation
Enhance and evolve data orchestration and transformation infrastructure to support platform scalability
Modernize legacy data pipelines using Python and SQLMesh, reducing technical debt over time
Participate in on-call rotation, triaging and resolving incidents related to ETL failures, data unavailability, and metric discrepancies
Build and refine observability tools such as alert thresholds, metrics, logs, dashboards, and escalation procedures
Improve platform reliability and early failure detection through enhanced monitoring and logging
Maintain and extend pipelines supporting creator payouts and revenue reporting, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards
Support the development of new revenue streams by building robust data pipelines
Optimize query performance and reduce compute costs in BigQuery
Contribute to ingestion platform improvements and product analytics infrastructure
Ensure all data pipeline features meet validation, documentation, and monitoring standards before deployment
