Staff Software Engineer - Core Edge Processing

For our client, we are seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Core Edge Processing to join the team of a leader in the Finance & Insurance space.
This role will focus on building and refining highly available transaction processing systems that support critical payment operations in a regulated environment. You will partner closely with other engineers to improve platform reliability, performance, and system design while helping shape technical decisions across a complex codebase. The position also offers the opportunity to mentor teammates and raise engineering standards across the organization.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $156,800 – $196,000 annually
Responsibilities
Ship and refine production code for routing and processing systems
Lead initiatives to enhance platform reliability and efficiency
Collaborate on system design, including data models and failure strategies
Manage complex codebases and elevate engineering standards
Mentor junior engineers and influence technical direction
Qualifications
8+ years of hands-on engineering experience, actively coding daily
Expertise in Java with a focus on concurrency and performance
Proficient in system design and production deployment
Experience in regulated, cloud-native, high-availability environments
Background in payment processing or card issuing, familiar with JPOS or ISO 8583
